Feel Good Flow: Episode 17

Hi Friends,

Last week a box arrived at my door that looked like any other online order from a boutique company. I had to think, what did I order? That heirloom quality blouse I’ve been eyeying? Those upcycled jeans from New York? No. Then I noticed the holes punched in the sides of the box.

Friends, it was 250 wriggling night crawlers. That’s right, my shipment of worms arrived and I eagerly added them to the compost heap.

I have worms!

I’m a multifaceted, complex woman. Fashion and style, compost and worms. I love it all.

Here are some other varying vibes for the week…

Quick Hits for the Week:

1) Raving

Strangers by Belle Burden

Reading and not paying attention to the child on the ground…

Last Sunday afternoon I started reading Belle Burden’s Strangers at my sons’ extremely boring lacrosse game (they’re both goalies on the middle school team and their offense was walloping the other team). I finished the book the same night. I can’t remember the last time I read a book in a day (I think it was Oliver Twist in the 9th grade that I waited all marking period to read). Strangers reads almost like fiction in its momentous pace of the making and undoing of her marriage. For me, I found the familiarity of her story the most compelling. I’ve felt and have seen the unspoken rules of marriage gender roles play out unfairly against women. I feel a rage at how they disempower, as in Burden’s case, even the most privileged among us. I think the real power of the book lies in the way Burden relates her anger without bitterness or hostility. It feels more like a gradual awakening to enlightenment. I’m dying to talk about it with another woman. If you have read it, hit me up!

2) Watching

Heavy + Light
Getting into a TV show, or watching a movie has been hard the last few months.

I felt like I was living an episode of The Pitt every day. This week I found myself alone for a glorious hour and started watching Margo’s Got Money Troubles on Apple TV. Elle Fanning and Michelle Pheiffer are back to back single mothers both dealing with patriarchy in their generational ways. David E. Kelley’s script is snappy, based on Rufi Thorpe’s novel. Despite the serious subject matter, the show feels lighthearted and somehow funny? Now I just need another stretch of time to keep watching…

3) Making

Crocheted Things

Saoirse has been eyeing all the adorable crochet kits and I told her we’d bring in an expert to teach her the basics since I have no idea.

I recruited my friend Julie for a lesson. Which is kinda like your kid is interested in dance, so you bring over Bob Fosse. Julie has her own successful youtube channel for everything crochet. Check it out. She’s an incredible teacher, Saoirse is hooked. 😉

4) Receiving

Speaking of Saoirse…

Did any of you readers send her this Koala?

The package didn’t come with sender information so we don’t know who to thank. It’s a weighted stuffed animal. You can wear it on your back or your front. I put it  on for a second and immediately felt my vagus nerve click on. So sooooooothing. Like holding a baby without the screaming or fear of dropping it. It hasn’t left her side. It would make an incredible gift for any kid.

BTW, she’s been doing so well. I think we’ve finally turned a corner. ♥️

5) Feeling

Rollicking

I would totally wear this fairy's outfit.

We’ve entered the month of May which is a particularly magical month. Pre-Christianity May was known for rollicking feasts and festivals. There are plenty of legends about fairies and other magical creatures being spotted at this time of year. It’s also a peak time for blossoming flowers and breeding in the animal kingdom. Taking time to notice the nests, build a fairy garden, and exploring physical love are all ways of honoring the season.

Hoping your May is a rollicking one 🧚‍♀️

Shine on,

Maggie
