Feel Good Flow: Episode 15
Hi Friends,
My parents left this week after an extended stay to help out during all the crazy hospital stuff. For a month we got a taste of what a multi-generational household might be like. Yes, I regressed at times to a petulant 16 year-old, or 13, if I am being really honest. But there was also a soothing factor of knowing my mother was helping out with the homeschooling and monitoring the milk status in the refrigerator. My dad and I also spent two days spreading 120 bags of mulch in the yard. I’m at an age now where I see the decline of who were once the “grownups” around me. I see them graduating to something more fragile, requiring more doctor visits, more assistance. Time is slippery. 120 bags shared with your father suddenly feels light, a cherished privilege rather than a burdensome chore.
And on that note, happy birthday mom who circled the sun again this weekend.
In between yard work, Saoirse had a slew of appointments this week. The good news is that her heart clot has already broken up. Bad news is that her kidney lab results reversed course. The message from doctors is have patience. Which I want to snap back with, yeah, I’ve had A LOT of patience. This is where I need work. Saoirse’s job is to heal. Mine is to keep faith and positivity. That’s the struggle. Your prayers and kind thoughts have helped me return to the well again and again to find more patience than I ever thought I could have. I’m finding patience (like love) comes from an infinite stream of abundance. Thank you.

Quick Hits for the Week:
1) WEARING
I Can’t Decide!
I’ll be honest, I love everything about Brand’s (Josh Brolin) look from Goonies.
I’ve already told you about my love of bandanas, now I want to wax poetic about the short sleeved sweatshirt. One of the longstanding items in my wardrobe happens to be a VERY humble navy blue short sleeved sweatshirt I bought from an Aerie outlet store in 2010. I still pack it every summer for a lake/beach vacation. Not only is it the comfiest thing to sleep in, it is the perfect layer on those days where you can’t decide if it’s cold or warm outside. I recently bought a gray one, a la Brand, from Perfect White Tee, now they’ve released their Ziggy sweatshirt in a short sleeved version. Tempting.
Don't worry, there's links this time! Keep reading for the link ⬇️
2) Transitioning
Spring Cool ➡ Summer Hot
This pic of a woman in what looks like a New York bodega was a launching pad for me last year. (Photo Credit: @MillcreekManor on IG)
A white cotton skirt, sweatshirt, birks… it’s still all I want to wear during transition time. Comfy, femme. It’s a crystallization of my style. Of course, I would add a bandana. 😉More ideas at the button above.
Also in that catalog, I have clickies for the Dollywood look that I pulled together last week (pic below for reference).
Remember this look?
3) Making
Girl Dinner
I am in a complete recipe rut over here.
Saoirse is on a low salt diet so pretty much everything has to be homemade and I am VERY tired of cooking everything. When it comes to lunch for me, I’ve been pulling together girl dinners. But this chicken salad twist may be nice to batch cook and I love that it comes together in a few minutes.
4) Plogging
That’s Not a Typo
If you are a fan of author David Sedaris, you know his habit of picking up trash on long walks.
They even named a garbage truck after him in his quaint British town. Turns out the Swedes have been doing it for years. Leave it to New Yorkers to make plogging type-A competitive, but I am here for it.
5) Listening
Helter Skelter, Take 2
I’ve been heavily into classic rock lately. Nostalgia? Or regression?
As far as the Beatles go, it’s hard for me to appreciate how revolutionary they were when you grew up listening to bands that derived from their genius. It’s like watching kung fu, after watching Tarintino. It’s not clear who’s copying who unless you understand what came first. This single track makes it impossibly clear what they meant to rock and roll, a coalescing of rhythm/blues and a hint of sitar. I’ll warn you, it runs more than 12 minutes. Do yourself a favor, don’t rush a second of it. Be like Rick Rubin, find a comfortable seat, close your eyes and listen not just to the music, but the silence between the notes. Musical meditation.
If you've read this far, I just want to thank you for being a real one 💖
Shine on,
Maggie
